Position: Emergency Medical Technician

Job Location: Thomas H. Boyd Memorial Hospital

Salary Range: $19-$20 per hour

Schedule: Full-time

Job Summary

Provide pre-hospital, emergency room, and hospital care for patients according to established protocols. Responsibilities include patient assessment, emergency care, transportation, and preparation of ambulances for subsequent calls.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform daily checks of assigned ambulances at the beginning of each shift.

  • Operate ambulances safely and proficiently.

  • Conduct complete patient assessments, evaluating all signs and symptoms.

  • Provide pre-hospital emergency care.

  • Deliver effective basic patient stabilization.

  • Maintain scene control until relieved by appropriate authorities.

  • Restock and clean ambulances after each call.

  • Assist in various hospital departments as directed.

  • Accurately document care provided in the field and complete necessary billing documentation.

  • Maintain a clean and orderly work environment.

  • Adhere to Compliance, Safety, and HIPAA policies.

  • Access and manage highly sensitive patient information.

  • Register patients through the ER registration department.

  • Assist in the ER by taking vital signs, transporting patients, and supporting ER nurses as needed.

Qualifications

  • A high school education is preferred.

  • Possess and maintain a current, valid Illinois Driver’s License with no suspensions.

  • Possess and maintain an Emergency Medical Technician (Basic) license.

  • Possess and maintain a current healthcare provider CPR certification.

  • Obtain Pediatric Education for Prehospital Providers (PEPP) certification within 90 days.

Physical Demands

On-the-job activities:

  • Frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk, hear, and use hands to handle or feel.

  • Occasionally required to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, or push/pull objects.

  • Must be capable of lifting and carrying up to 100 pounds, including assisting with patient movement and equipment.

 

Vision Requirements:

  • Close and distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
