Position: Medical Assistant

Job Location: Boyd Fillager Clinic - Greenfield

Salary Range: Starting at $19/hour

Full-time: 8am-4pm, Monday-Friday

Job Summary

Under general supervision, performs a wide variety of medical and clinical support functions in an outpatient clinical setting, such as providing initial patient triage, registration, and administrative services, assists with direct patient care, and performs specialized medical procedures of a routine nature, as determined by established clinical protocol, policies and procedures.

Key Responsibilities

• Obtain patient medical history, vital signs, chart preparation, medication dosage and frequency, patient allergens, and assist with medical examinations.

• Maintain accurate and strict confidentiality of patient information in electronic and/or manual systems as established by the appropriate protocols, regulations, and policies.

• Performs routine specialized procedures, such as venipuncture, catheterization, and sterile dressing changes under established protocols.

• Maintains stocks of medicines and medical supplies as necessary.

• Educates and advises patients on specified medical issues within established parameters.

• Completes physician orders and facilitates specialists' care, which may result in phoning patient prescriptions.

• Provides instructions and directions to patients regarding diagnostic tests, procedures and treatments.

• Performs data entry of lab studies, radiographic tests, and authorization request in compliance with physician/RN directives.

• May refill non-opioid medications if approved by provider.

• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

 

Required Skills and Attributes

• Understanding of patient care charts, medical histories, and evaluation/triage procedures.

• Familiarity with accreditation, certification, and outpatient clinical administrative requirements.

• Awareness of safety, environmental, and infection control standards.

• Experience with inventory management practices.

• Skill in performing standard clinical procedures in accordance with established protocols.

• Proficiency in maintaining calendars and scheduling appointments efficiently.

• Commitment to maintaining quality, safety, and infection control standards.

• Ability to educate patients and families on disease processes, proper care, and treatment.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED

• Medical Assistant certificate or currently enrolled in a medical program or at least 3 years of experience in a medical field

• CPR certified

• May be required to submit immunization records for review for required vaccines and TB testing.

• A pre-employment background investigation may be required.

• Employees who provide services or work in patient care or clinical areas are required to be in compliance with the Boyd’s influenza vaccination requirement.
